Identify your interests, values, and skills

If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to deciding on a major path, you’re not alone! The Division of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) can help guide you through the process. Start your self-exploration by completing one of the self-assessment tools listed below and reviewing the results with your academic advisor.

Occupational Personality Types (Holland Code)

Use O*Net’s "My Next Move" Interest Profiler to explore and rank your interests and receive your "Holland Code" (R-I-A-S-E-C). This code can help narrow down vocational strengths and give you a starting place to look at majors at Penn State that may be a good fit. This assessment is free to use and does not require the creation of an account.

Student Self-Reflection

Use the Self-Assessment created by DUS advisors to help you identify your reasoning for being in college and your strength and interest in academic subject areas. This assessment includes open-ended self-reflection questions. You can opt to send your results directly to your DUS advisor.

Career Assessments

Make an appointment with University Career Services located in the Bank of America Career Services Building on campus to explore additional career and personality assessments. These assessments can be administered by a trained career counseling professional.
