Abstract:
Today's students often bring challenges to advising appointments that extend beyond academics, including financial hardship, housing concerns, mental health challenges, and other barriers that can impact student success. As a result, advisors are increasingly asked to navigate concerns that may fall outside their traditional areas of expertise. This interactive session explores how advisors can effectively support students as part of a broader campus network of care. Using a large public university as a case study, participants will examine strategies for identifying concerns, making meaningful connections to resources, and collaborating with campus partners while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Through discussion and case studies, attendees will explore how coordinated support systems can enhance both student success and student wellbeing and identify opportunities to strengthen support networks at their own institutions.
