Generative AI as a Mirror: A Reflective Partner in Academic Advising

Keywords:

Abstract:

Generative AI isn’t just for drafting emails or speeding up tasks—it can also be a powerful partner in reflective practice. This session invites academic advisers to explore how AI can support professional growth by helping us examine our language, question assumptions, and refine our communication style. We’ll take an introspective approach, experimenting with prompts that deepen how we show up in our work.

The session includes hands-on practice and shared dialogue. Participants will explore how AI can enhance reflection by tone-checking difficult conversations, reframing feedback, and examining the mindsets that shape their advising. We’ll also create space to share experiences, ideas, and questions about AI’s role in our day-to-day work. Whether you’re new to AI or already experimenting, this session offers a fresh lens on tech-enhanced, values-driven advising that keeps human connection at the center.
