Equity, Respect, and Belonging Training and Development Technology and Social Media

On April 26, 2027, the U.S. Department of Justice will begin to enforce web accessibility standards for large public entities, with smaller entities following one year later. As public colleges and universities prepare for the DOJ enforcement deadline, academic advisers and other student-facing practitioners have a timely opportunity to reflect on how their digital outreach practices meet the needs of disabled and neurodivergent students.

This practical, growth-oriented session will present the accessibility basics most important for advising, with a focus on email, text/SMS, and documents. Through gentle skill-building, guided reflections, and hands-on exercises, this session encourages advisers to approach accessibility as a series of smaller shifts in mindset and practice that reinforce their professional values and foster meaningful student connections.
