Anticipating Student Needs: A Holistic, Coaching-Informed Approach to Supporting Online Learners

Keywords:

Abstract:

Today’s learners often begin with motivation but encounter predictable periods of overwhelm, doubt, and disconnection. Despite this, institutional support is often reactive and fragmented. This session introduces two complementary frameworks—the W-curve and a coaching-informed Focus Wheel—to promote a proactive, whole-student approach to success. The W-curve helps identify when students are most at risk during key transition points, while the Focus Wheel guides what areas of support to prioritize, including academic confidence, belonging, well-being, and personal effectiveness. Together, these tools shift strategies from isolated interventions to coordinated, intentional care. Participants will engage in reflection and discussion to identify gaps in their current practices and leave with practical strategies to better anticipate student needs and strengthen holistic, student-centered support.
