DUS News - October 2, 2017

News:

Do you have three finals in a row?

If you have three final exams on one day OR three exams in consecutive periods you can file an Overload Conflict Exam Request Form if you are at University Park, Harrisburg, or Behrend campus. If you are at another campus, please contact your campus registrar. The University Registrar explains the Final Exam conflict procedure.

Don’t know when you exams are? You can find a tutorial on viewing your exam schedule in LionPATH here. Look for “Exam Schedule” under Other academics.

Take action if you received a warning from an instructor

Instructors have been asked to provide you with feedback about your progress in their courses. If you receive positive feedback, keep up the good work! If you receive a warning, please take action! In that case, your instructor has both noticed that you are doing (or not doing) something they expect for success in their course and has taken the time to draw your attention to this concern. You need to make some change to what you are doing in response to this warning. If you’re not sure what you need to do differently, talk to your instructor, TA, or academic adviser as soon as possible, so you have a chance to recover your grade before you’re in too deep. Not sure how to take the first step? See our previous DUS News article about office hours.

Deeper in Debt: Women and Student Loans
University Park

Based on a new study from the American Association of University Women showing almost two-thirds of the country’s $1.3 trillion dollars in student debt is held by women. Women incur larger student loan debt than men, and earn an average of 22% less than their male counterparts. These factors and others leave women with less disposable income.  It takes an average of two years longer for women to pay off student loan debt.  Federal and State funding of higher education, financial aid issues, academic choices, pay gaps in gender and race, and advocacy ideas for individuals will be discussed. This program will empower women to make life-changing choices that could dramatically affect their financial future.

Want to learn more? Come to the Deeper in Debt: Women and Student Loans panel program on Tuesday, October 10th.  It will take place in the Smeal Business Building, Room 110, from 6:30 - 7:45 pm.  The program is sponsored by AAUW-Pennsylvania, AAUW State College and the Penn State Financial Literacy and Wellness Center.

Advance registration is requested via https://financialliteracy.psu.edu/deeper-in-debt-women-and-student-loans/.
