Exploration Series Topic #2

How do I connect my interests to Penn State majors?

Hopefully, you've completed Exploration Series Topic #1. Now it's time to move on to connecting your interests to possible majors. Begin to filter majors by area of interest through MajorQuest. Use How Do I Find a Major? as a guided note-taking sheet to help you with your exploration.  After you've identified some majors, use the Major Exploration Worksheet to dig deeper into your interests, values, and strengths and how they relate to what you want to study. 

To Do: Complete the How Do I Find a Major Worksheet and/or the Major Exploration Worksheet linked above. Bring them with you to your next advising appointment and start a more detailed conversation with your adviser about your major exploration.

Preparing for the Career Fair

Preparing to attend the Career Fair for the first time can be overwhelming. With over 300 employers expected to attend Spring Career Days this year, it is important to do your research on what to expect, prepare your resume, and strategize for success by targeting specific organizations of interest. Penn State Career Services is a great resource for taking on the Career Fair with confidence. They offer Career Counseling, Prep Workshops, Volunteer Opportunities, and more. Check out your Campus Career Services to take advantage of similar programs and opportunities for support. Students from all campuses and colleges are welcome to attend!

Study Abroad Applications

Education abroad is an invaluable experience offering personal growth and intercultural development, cultivating strong global citizenship, leadership, and perspective. Group Advising Sessions

DUS will be holding Group Advising Sessions throughout the fall semester as a way to discuss popular advising topics with groups of students. These sessions are open to all DUS students and will help you to learn more about the topic and to ask questions in a friendly, open environment. All sessions are held in the Grange Building Lobby.

Free Wellness Services Available

University Park

Health Promotion and Wellness is now offering free Wellness Services for students. The services are designed to help students increase knowledge and learn new skills that contribute to healthy behaviors and academic success.  Services are available for:

  • Financial Wellness
  • Healthy Relationships and Sexual Health
  • Nutrition/Healthy Eating
  • Physical Activity
  • Sleep
  • Stress (Relaxation and Time Management)

Each service includes three 1-hour sessions and are held in the Wellness Suite, Room 20 IM Building. Trained peer educators deliver the services. Schedule an appointment by calling 814.863.0461 or by using the myUHS page. For students who are unable to make it to University Park, call in appointments as well as skype/zoom appointments are available. 

All that WE ARE

All Campuses

Stand for State will host an event, “All that WE ARE,” at Penn State campuses between Jan. 15 and 30. This event is inspired by the viral video "All That We Share." The activity is intended to help build empathy and connection between participants, who respond to a variety of questions that highlight human experiences. Following the event, a short video similar to the one above will be released highlighting all the campuses that participated. Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate.  Read the full story for more information and to find dates/times at your location.

S.T.A.R.T. Diversity Contest

Are you looking for scholarship opportunities? DUS students are welcome to apply for the S.T.A.R.T Diversity Contest.. This is a written expression contest with awards of $500, $750, and $1500 for first place.

Physicians Assistant Prep Session

University Park

PA Prep sessions introduce first-year and sophomore students to the coursework, experiences, and skills needed for a career as a physician assistant. The session also introduces the coursework, experiences, and skills needed to successfully apply to physician assistant programs.

Spring 2018 PA Prep sessions:
- Tuesday, January 30, 6–7 p.m., 216 Thomas
- Wednesday, March 21, 6–7 p.m., 216 Thomas.
