A 14-year veteran of the Foreign Service, Dan Pattarini is currently serving as an Outreach Officer with the USA Study Abroad Branch in the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. In this position he supports efforts to increase and diversify study abroad opportunities for U.S. higher education students and institutions.
 
Prior to his current position, Dan served as the Public Affairs Officer in the Office of Foreign Missions and as an Outreach Officer in Bureau of Consular Affairs’ Office of Public and Congressional Affairs. Dan was the Public Affair Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg from 2016 to 2019. In 2014-15, he was the Environment, Science, Technology and Health Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.  From 2012 to 2014 he served in Cairo, Egypt as an Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer and Consular Officer. Dan joined the Department in 2009 and served two years as the Deputy Public Affairs Officer in Muscat, Oman. 
 
Prior to the Foreign Service, Dan worked at the Institute for International Education. Dan holds a B.A. from the College of William and Mary and an M.A. from American University. He has studied Arabic and French. Born in New York, Dan has called Virginia home since he moved there as a child. He and his wife Katy have three children and a Labrador retriever.
