News:
Best wishes from the Associate Dean

As the spring semester comes to a close, I want to wish you all the best on your final exams. I hope that your summer is relaxing and that you take time to continue thinking about your educational journey. In particular, make time to reflect on how your perspective on yourself and our world is changing. With all your experiences this summer, challenge yourself to think about how you will apply your Penn State education to solve problems and strengthen communities—whether nearby or at a distance. Please know that academic advisers in the Division of Undergraduate Studies are available over the summer to help you discuss your educational goals and to consider what opportunities might best connect with your interests. Use this summer to recharge and to reconnect with family and friends.

Sincerely,
David R. Smith
Associate Dean for Advising and
  Executive Director
The Division of Undergraduate Studies

What’s coming in the fall – New Email, New Gen Ed Program

New email: Penn State is implementing Office 365, and you now have access to Microsoft Office applications through Penn State. Your email will be moved from WebMail to Microsoft Outlook over the summer, which should make it much easier for you to manage university-sent emails. You’ll receive notices about this transition in your current PSU email, so keep an eye out! More information about this initiative is summarized in a News article, and on the Office 365 home page.

New Gen Ed program: Students starting their Penn State career this summer will have a new set of General Education requirements. These requirements are designed to make the connections between different knowledge domains (like the natural sciences (GN) and the humanities (GH), for example) more explicit, and to increase the flexibility students have in choosing gen ed courses. This change only affects students beginning in Summer 2018. Students who started at Penn State before Summer 2018 have the option to opt into the program. If you are interested in this, contact your academic adviser.
