"She who reconciles the ill-matched threads
of her life, and weaves them gratefully
into a single cloth—
it’s she who drives the loudmouths from the hall
and clears it for a different celebration.
Where the one guest is You."
– Rainer Maria Rilke
My favorite place I have travelled is... I feel like almost every place – in North America or globally – that I have visited has some qualities that would merit it as a favorite. So it’s hard to pick one! But I love that our family goal – to visit all 48 contiguous states in the U.S. by the time my kids graduated high school – was reached a few years ago. It was special to experience the diversity of people and places domestically. After we visited all 48 states, we still had a desire to keep road tripping. So, since then, we’ve driven all the way to Prince Edward Island and spent a week driving around Italy.
The most unusual thing in my office is an “Incredible Squishy Swedish Fish” that my daughter gave to me. It looks good enough to eat, but please don’t because it is not edible.
I like to collect interesting second-hand trinkets from consignment stores and family members. It’s fun to group unexpected things together around my house, especially when they can start conversations.
In my spare time I make old and new recipes, grow things in the garden, go on long walks or hikes, and poke around second-hand stores.
Something someone told me that I still live by today is “Remember where you came from!”
Things that amuse me are my dog and chickens. Especially when my dog, who is a Lancashire Heeler, tries to herd the chickens.
If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life it would be Frog Holler. They are based in Berks County, PA, and their lyrics are poetry for me.
I am proud that I am the first person in my family to graduate from college and that I get to help students navigate their college journeys.
