- Allow students to pursue their unique interests: While the educational goals of most students can be met by existing degree programs, the B.Phil. allows students to (1) create a major that does not exist at Penn State and (2) integrate multiple areas of study across the University in ways that the existing curriculum cannot accommodate.
- Build towards a capstone project: Students engage deeply with a focused topic or question within their area of interest by undertaking research studies, creative projects, or other experiences that culminate in a presentation and defense of their work.
The B.Phil. requires a high level of organization, motivation, and independence, including the commitment to developing a relationship with a faculty mentor, who will provide guidance throughout the program. The program is a great stepping stone to graduate school and unique career opportunities.
