Abstract:

We created the BA 197 Smeal College of Business Pre-major Seminar, which is an innovative, fully remote and asynchronous course designed to engage and include pre-major students across all Penn State Commonwealth Campuses. The course features creative teaching strategies such as weekly media announcements, and the opportunity to attend online panel discussions and major exploration. Assignments are designed to foster real-world connections and collaboration, including virtual networking events with Smeal alumni, professional resume reviews with the Business Career Center, and peer-led discussion boards that build community. To further support student success and motivation, the course offers peer mentorship which helps students feel well-prepared for the transition to University Park.
