Description of the major
These programs help students prepare to be studio artists and art teachers. Studio professors are nationally recognized artists, and the art education faculty members have national and international reputations as scholars. Students enter the foundation program their first year. After completing the sequence of two-and three-dimensional art studios, students explore various art media: ceramics, drawing and painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. All classes are small to ensure personal instruction. Art Education students select either the Museum and Cultural Institutions option or the Schools option. Graduates pursue careers in studio arts, art education, and museum education. Placement is based on academic achievement and a portfolio review.
