Welcome to the New Mentor
Welcome to the new Mentor. After working with the original look and design of the journal for more than twelve years, our team of editors and expert support staff agreed The Mentor might benefit from a few changes. Over the course of the last six months, we walked down memory lane more than a few times but also conducted an in-depth review and considered various formats, features, suggestions, and options.
We hope you like the enhancements and find the journal pleasing to view, easy to navigate, and as enlightening to read as ever. Though most changes will be fairly evident as you explore the journal’s tabs and links, you might also notice that the new version retains a few “old” features that have been important and unique aspects of The Mentor for some time. For example, the journal will continue to publish manuscripts on a continuous cycle rather than a traditional monthly or quarterly schedule, our authors will still reflect a range of experience as well as present different approaches to the study and practice of advising concepts, and the “Advising Forum” will continue to ask for your opinion about topics and issues we all tend to face as academic advisers in higher education.
On the newer side of the house, The Mentor now offers a comment feature at the end of every column, so readers may share thoughts and ask questions immediately after finishing an article. Also, because the journal has been so fortunate over the years to receive numerous submissions from graduate students as they develop strong skills as both advisers and authors, our design specifically showcases their efforts in the new “Graduate Corner.” We hope you enjoy it and encourage these authors to continue to research and contribute fresh ideas to the field of academic advising.
Finally, readers may now subscribe by clicking on the RSS feed link at the top of the page. Each time a new article is published, the headline will appear in your newsfeed reader, which you can check whenever it is convenient for you.
Please take your time exploring The Mentor and let us know what you think. Feel free to contact me at erw2@psu.edu or Deborah Oakes, the journal’s general editor, at dlo5@psu.edu. Also consider submitting an article or encouraging your colleagues to do so. Your work and experiences are extremely valuable and can help the journal grow even more in the next twelve years.
