INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SERVICES
Penn State's information technology infrastructure and services are provided through Information Technology Services (ITS). Numerous services related to computing, networking, phone services, and information systems are available to students. PENN STATE ACCESS ACCOUNT
A Penn State Access Account is a user ID and password that enable Penn State students, faculty, and staff, whether on or off campus, to use a full range of Internet services such as eLion, email, library resources, Penn State Access Account Storage Space, Web Resources, student computing labs, and software. An account is provided to any student who has registered for one or more credits and has paid the information technology fee. See Penn State Accounts for information on how to obtain your account.
ANGEL COURSE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Faculty members may use Penn State's course management system, ANGEL, to provide students with course materials, e.g., syllabi, schedules, announcements, lecture notes, quizzes, and multimedia resources. Students use ANGEL to submit course work, communicate with instructors and classmates, keep track of class assignments, and check grades for online quizzes and assignments completed in ANGEL.
STUDENT COMPUTING LABS
Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and ITS UNIX cluster computer labs are provided for general academic use, instruction, and research. A comprehensive suite of software is provided for a wide variety of tasks ranging from word processing to statistical analysis, with full access to the Internet. Student computer consultants are available in most labs. Solaris and AIX machines are available for remote access via the ITS UNIX cluster.
PENN STATE'S COMPUTER STORE
Academically priced software, hardware, peripherals, and supplies can be purchased online or at the HUB Showroom. Free pre-sales consulting is available by phone at 814-865-2100 or 800-251-9281, by live chat at http://computerstore.psu.edu//chat/chat.php, or by sending e-mail to email@example.com.
ITS Help Desks provide answers to a variety of technology questions. Computing assistance is available at the ITS Service Desk @ Knowledge Commons in W130A Pattee Library, as well as in 204 Wagner Building and many computer labs. ITS Help Desk staff also provides comprehensive help documentation for a variety of services via the ITS Knowledge Base.
ITS provides short videos that offer quick tours of some Information Technology Services. The ITS website provides information on essential student services: ANGEL, eLion, WebMail, and more. In addition, ITS Training Services provides a variety of free training opportunities for Penn State students, faculty, and staff.
ITS provides Safe Computing information on installing and updating virus protection software and security patches on a regular basis to secure computers against viruses, worms, and intrusion attempts.
