FIRST-YEAR SEMINAR (FYS)/FIRST-YEAR ENGAGEMENT PLAN (FYE)
CRITERIA TO DETERMINE STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

(Reference: First-Year Seminars)

  1. If a student is admitted to University Park (UP) (or one of the campuses that required a FYS), the FYS requirement will be listed as a requirement on the student's degree audit.
  2. If a student is admitted to a campus that does not require an FYS course, the FYS requirement will not be on the student's degree audit. (There may be a message on the student's degree audit to indicate the FYE is completed without an FYS course.)
  3. If a student changes campuses to UP (or another campus that requires a FYS) with less than 24 credits completed, the FYS requirement will be added to the student's degree audit.
  4. If a student changes campuses to UP (or another campus that requires the FYS) with more than 23.9 credits completed, the FYS requirement will not be added to the student's degree audit. There will be a message on the audit to indicate an FYS course is not required.
  5. If a student is admitted to UP (or another campus that requires a FYS) and then changes campuses to one that does not require an FYS course, the FYS requirement will be removed from the student's degree audit. (There may be a message on the audit to indicate the FYE is completed without an FYS course.)

The University may make changes in policies, procedures, educational offerings, and requirements at any time. Please consult a Penn State academic adviser for more detailed information.
