Welcome To Penn State!
The First-Year Testing, Consulting, and Advising Program (FTCAP) begins Penn State's orientation to the University's undergraduate educational experience—a rich blending of both in- and out-of-class learning opportunities.
First-year students (including provisional students) learn what Penn State will expect of them as new members of the University community. FTCAP helps students become acquainted with the University's values, policies, procedures, and resources. Students have the opportunity to examine their academic experiences, interests, educational plans, and Penn State's many degree programs, and they receive help in selecting courses for their first semester. FTCAP gives students an opportunity to connect with other new students as well as members of the campus community.
FTCAP includes:
- Course Placement
Online placement testing in mathematics and chemistry
Placement into English composition courses
- Pre-Work to Prepare for the Academic Advising Day
- Includes the completion of an Educational Planning Survey and online modules to learn about Penn State degrees, course registration processes, and academic choices.
- A Visit to Campus
- To begin setting academic goals, receive academic advising, and interact with members of the Penn State community.
So what are you waiting for? Get started on the right foot at Penn State with FTCAP!
