Step 3: Advising

Once you complete the Educational Planning Survey and your online placement tests, your campus of admission will send you information about your advising day campus visit. Your advising day typically involves:

Learning about the academic structure of Penn State
This will include discussions about Penn State's colleges, types of programs offered by each college, and entrance-to-major requirements. You will also become acquainted with your campus and staff, learn about critical University policies and procedures, and be introduced to out-of-class opportunities.
Gaining an understanding of your academic preparation and abilities compared to others
You will receive the results of your FTCAP placement tests (part of your Summary of Academic Performance, which will be interpreted for you during your campus visit). If you have any questions about your individualized summary after you have had a chance to look it over, you will have the opportunity to discuss it with an adviser.
Obtaining your Penn State id+ card and your Penn State Access Account
The id+ card is your official University identification card and can be used to access a variety of services both on and off campus. Your Access Account will provide you with an official Penn State e-mail address and will allow you to access a number of web-based programs and services. In most cases, you will be using your Access Account to register for your first semester courses.
Meeting with representatives of the college in which you plan to enroll
You will receive information about the college in which you plan to enroll and plan a schedule of courses for your first semester at Penn State.
