Lesson 2: What do I need to know about myself to choose a major? Purpose: To help you reflect on your personal characteristics (interests, abilities, values, personality traits, etc.) and prepare to discuss them with your adviser. Knowing if a major is right for you begins with identifying your personal characteristics. In addition, the more your adviser knows about you, the better he/she will be able to help you relate your personal characteristics to possible majors and develop a plan to explore those majors.
