Nancy Coleman

DUS Experience

When did you enter DUS?
Freshman year
How many semesters did you spend in DUS?
Five.
Why did you choose DUS?
I was undecided about a major. I thought DUS would let me get my general classes out of the way while I was deciding.
What resources did you use in your exploratory and decision-making process?
The DUS computer program at Penn State Wilkes Barre, conversations with Ruth Davidson (English instructor at Penn State Schuylkill), and general support from Dr. Merill and Mrs. Hinchey (Penn State Wilkes Barre English instructors).
Did DUS benefit you? If so, how?
Yes, mainly it gave me time to think and fulfill basic course requirements.

Penn State Experience

What major(s) (and minor(s), if applicable) did you end up choosing?
English with a minor in Geography.
What year did you graduate?
1989
What extracurricular activities made a difference in your college experience?
Ballroom dancing classes and club, fellowship group, and Campus Crusade for Christ all brought me personal growth and enjoyment.
Looking back, would you have done anything differently during your time at Penn State?
If I could do it again, I'd major in English and/or Journalism from the start and take more classes related to those fields. I would get involved with internships and extracurricular activities related to communications and journalism. I now realize the importance of hands-on experience.
