I am originally from California's Central Valley, which is internationally known for its agricultural productivity. In August 2008, I moved to State College with my husband and our adopted dog Twister.

My educational career began at a community college, where I was extremely undecided about majors and career paths. After enrolling in an interpersonal communication course to fulfill my public speaking requirement, I found my passion for communication and human behavior. I later graduated from California State University, Fresno, with my bachelor of arts degree in speech communication and went on to earn my master of science degree in counseling and student services with an emphasis in higher education.

My passion for higher education has allowed me to hold positions as a college recruiter, community college instructor, college admissions liaison, and academic adviser. While in these positions, I worked with a variety of student populations. Among my favorites were migratory students whose family members worked in the agricultural industry. These students, along with their families, inspired me and helped shape my approach to academic advising.

Outside of work, in addition to spending time with my family and friends, I enjoy reading nonfiction and graphic novels, listening to and collecting vinyl records, and watching social and cultural documentary films.
