Meredith Chaney
I hail from Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Penn State in 1994 with a B.A. in history and a minor in French. I have teaching certifications in secondary education-social studies and K-12 French. I have been in Happy Valley since 1990 except for two years I spent in Philadelphia while teaching in the Central Bucks School District. In the recent past, I worked for a State College-based software company as a technical writer and member of the support staff.
I became interested in advising when a friend (DUS adviser Maren Larson) suggested I apply to work with the First-Year Testing, Consulting, and Advising Program (FTCAP) during summer 2005. The experience inspired me to return to graduate school in the hope of becoming a professional adviser. I graduated in December 2010 with a master's degree in higher education and feel I have landed my dream job working in DUS. I thoroughly enjoy supporting students as they discover their academic calling and am lucky to be surrounded by such dedicated, smart, fun colleagues.
I spend my free time with my three children and squeeze in running, mountain biking, reading, and knitting when possible.
